Употребление термина моральная угроза в литературе не вполне единообразно. Этот термин возник в литературе по страхованию, которая вначале сосредоточила внимание на двух типах информационных несовершенств: "моральная угроза", которая возникает в тех случаях, когда страховая компания не может наблюдать, прилагает ли страхователь усилия по предотвращению ущерба, и "неблагоприятный выбор", который встречается в тех случаях, когда в момент приобретения страхового полиса страхователь больше знает о вероятности наступления страхового события, чем компания. — The literature's use of the term moral hazard is not entirely uniform. The term originates in the insurance literature, which first focused attention on two types of informational imperfections: the "moral hazard" that arises when an insurance company cannot observe whether the insured exerts effort to prevent a loss and the "adverse selection" that occurs when the insured knows more than the company at the time he purchases a policy about his likelihood of an accident.
